2010 Pearls Seminar on Chinese Medicine Management of Geriatric Disorders
Professor Zhang Tie Zhong shares his clinical experience in the management of Diabetes and some of the prevalent complications such as neuropathy (nerve damage) and nephropathy (kidney disease), TCM treatment of mild cognitive impairment (MCI, a transitional state between normal forgetfulness and dementia), depression for the elderly, osteoporosis and prostate hypertrophy.
Professor Zhang Tie Zhong of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is the head of Geriatric Department at the Sino Japanese Friendship Hospital in Beijing. He was nominated as the fourth selected batch of China National famous TCM doctors. He has 40 years of clinical experience and specialises in the treatment of geriatric diseases such as hypertension, stroke, coronary disease, diabetes and renal diseases. Under the Chinese Medicine Health Administration he embarked on research of TCM anti-atherosclerosis in an endeavour to seek better TCM treatment for patients suffering from hyperlipidemia, hypertension and arteriosclerosis. He has won many prize awards for his research work.
With the advent of 21st century science longevity has dramatically increased. This in turn presents modern medicine with unprecedented challenges and TCM is predicted to be part of these challenges. Some of the most prevalent geriatric disorders such as elderly diabetes and complications; cerebro cardiac vascular diseases, depression and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are on the rise and these have to be addressed to ensure the quality of life is preserved.
