Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly infectious disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus (SARS-CoV-2).
In late December 2019, an outbreak of a novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was reported in Wuhan, a city in the Hubei Province of China. It rapidly spread, resulting in an epidemic throughout China, with sporadic cases reported globally, becoming a global health emergency [1]. COVID-19 pneumonia has had a significant impact on people’s health and social activity behavior and on economic development. The Chinese government reported that 78,195 cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed, 2491 cases were suspected and 2718 patients had died as of February 26, 2020. Since March 2020, the WHO confirmed that COVID19 as pandemic.
Role of Chinese Medicine in the Management of Coronavirus Pneumonia:
Traditional Chinese medicine is a valued treasure of the Chinese nation tantamount to a crystallization of more than 5,000 years of civilization. It serves as an important carrier of Chinese culture. Historically, the Chinese people have relied on Chinese medicine to treat many epidemics since the Ming dynasty and Qing Dynasty (1368~1911). With the founding of New China, China has experienced numerous episode of epidemic disasters ie 1950s and 1960s, Japanese encephalitis; in the 1990s, hemorrhagic fever; and in 2003, the fight against SARS .
