Event Details
Day One:
Everyone will have a different experience in their recovery from COVID-19. Some people may recover in days, some in weeks. But for others, it could be months. Although each case is unique, people recovering from more severe symptoms are likely to face a longer recovery period.
Professor Xu Shu would like to share with you his Chinese medicine approach to dealing with some of the frequently encountered symptoms such as:
- Fatigue
- Dry hacking cough
- Breathlessness
- Joint or muscle pain
- Chest pain
- Change in sense of taste or smell
- Anxiety and/or low mood
What is long COVID?
Most people with COVID-19 will recover completely within a few weeks. However, some people may keep experiencing symptoms for several weeks or months after their infection.
People who have a longer recovery period can experience:
Ongoing symptoms in the medium term (from 4 to 12 weeks from first getting COVID-19)
Longer-term symptoms (from 12 weeks or more from first getting COVID-19). This is called ‘long COVID’ or post-COVID-19 condition.
Day Two:
Professor Xu Su will share his road-tested clinical experience in applying Supplementing the kidney essence to treat many diseases. The objective is to broaden your treatment approach to the “Supplementing the kidney essence Strategy” concept. Since I commenced working with Professor Xu Shu a few years ago, I have noted that his treatment approach as a general rule of thumb differs from the traditional TCM approach and I am very inspired by his treatment approach. For example, the treatment of insomnia by addressing the water qi; using Bo Zhong Yi Qi Tang to treat scleroderma, treatment of diabetes from the three yin channels perspective etc. The results proved to be effective. Professor Xu Shu will cite examples of case studies on how this philosophy can be applied to treat many diseases.
I would like to cite an example of the clinical application of Jin Gui Yao Lue in the treatment of diseases.
Formula: Gan Di Huang , Shan Yao, Shan Zhu Yu, Ze Xie, Dan Pi, Gui Zhi, Pao Fu Zi.
Action: Warm and transform kidney qi, warm and tonify the kidney yang.
Indications: Deficiency of kidney yang characterized by lumbar pain and weakness of the lower limbs, coldness in the lower jiao, pain in the lessor abdomen, vexation heat with inability to sleep, inhibited urination or excessive urination, impotence, pale and swollen tongue and a deficient and weak pulse with submerged and faint cubit pulse. Its main function can be summarized into: (1) kidney deficiency, (2) sufficiency of kidney yang; (3) impaired water metabolism.
The kidney governs water; kidney yang can transform qi and is responsible for water metabolism. When the kidney yang is deficient, the function of water metabolism is impaired resulting in edema.
Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan can augment qi, tonify the spleen and eliminate water swelling.
Other functions of Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan are:
- Coronary heart disease
- Allergic Rhinitis
- Oedema due to Kidney disorder
- Insomnia + Dan Shen and Suan Zao Ren, Mu Li
- Emphysema, Bronchial asthma
- Prostate hypertrophy
Introduction of Professor Xu Shu:
Professor Xu Shu 徐书教授 is a specially appointed TCM physician with the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine at the Guo Yi Tang outpatient clinic, Beijing. He pioneered the Xu Shi Chinese Medicine Research Center in Wu Xi Jiangsu Province and he is renowned for the application of Jing Fang in the treatment of many prevalent and difficult-to-treat diseases.
Professor Xu Shu is the author of Dedicated formula for treatment of specific disease 徐书专病特效方, Xu Shu’s Applications of Herbs Like a Warrior in Combat 徐书用药如用兵 and Professor Xu Shu’s Inspired Records of Shang Han Lun 徐书伤寒启新录 due to be published in October 2021. Professor Xu draws any analogy of the applications of herbs is tantamount to the famous book on “The Art of war” featuring many frequently used herbs. For example Ren Dong Teng according to “Ben Cao Gang Mu” is for heat-clearing and relieving toxicity. However, the paired herbs of Ren Dong Teng, Hu Zhang and Tu Fu Ling together has an anti effect of steroid and can regulate the immune system. This can be used to treat Still disease, SLE with good effective outcome. There are many examples of paired herbs in his book to treat difficult-to-treat diseases.
