Overtime, this may manifest as:Insomnia, reduction of memory, chronic digestive disorders, fear and harbouring grudges to the point of self harm, restlessness and agitation; emotional instability, tearful and easily upset and reduction of sexual desire.

According to Professor Xue Ju Fu, insomnia can be categorised as :

  • Difficulty in falling asleep
  • Easily falling asleep but difficulty to go back to sleep after waking up during the early hours of the evening
  • Easily awake coupled with sleep-like status; lack of deep-sleep; semi-lucid condition; a subjective feeling of wakefulness; fatigue after hours of sleep.
  • Sleep-filled dreams without much recollection; or dreams correlated with events during the day such as worry, fear and stress. All of which can provide important clues to the TCM practitioner.
